About Us
The Freshwater Village Association was formed in November 2006 by a group of Freshwater residents who are concerned
about Freshwater losing its village identity. As Freshwater is the largest village in West Wight events there may
possibly affect all the residents of West Wight. For this reason our consensus was we would welcome comment from anyone
in the surrounding area.
We appreciate that change must take place but we feel change should be sympathetic to a rural community and not
overwhelm the village ambience. The population of West Wight is increasing with little thought being given to the
pressure this places on schools, healthcare and the service infrastructure. Employment locally is scarce, and to a
large extent seasonal, so therefore more people will equal more vehicles travelling to workplaces on deteriorating
Island roads.
For the above reasons we feel Freshwater needs a co-ordinated voice to speak to those who are proposing changes that
are not in the best interests of the village. Our aim is not to stop change but to add a voice of reason to the
decision process.
If you agree with these principles please email us through the link on the "Contact Us" page and we will add you to our
mailing list.
